Kickstarting The Music Industry With Crowdfunding

Award-winning composer and pianist Wendy Loomis and well-known Bay Area poet and spoken word artist Royal Kent are facing the new reality of the music industry. Their beat ensemble COPUS is now turning to the consumer, to get their upcoming album “COPUS to the World” financed through the crowdfunding-platform Kickstarter.

And with 10% of the sales of “COPUS to the world” being donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, crowdfunding might evolve into the most fair economic model in history.

“COPUS could become legendary if given the opportunity to thrive!” These are the true words by music critic Michael Allison. But how can something thrive and grow in this ever-changing economic climate? And why not let the consumer decide what is worthy of their contribution?

In the wake of the global economic crisis, new and more democratic ways of funding have emerged. With Kickstarter being the leading crowdfunding-platform for creative projects, COPUS will not only record and release the new album “COPUS to the World”, but will accompany the project with a tour that brings them to New York, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Paris.

The entire ensemble, in addition to Wendy Loomis and Royal Kent, consists of flautist Monica Williams, bassists Patrick Mahon and percussion players Abassi Hunt along with Greg Doxey.

COPUS is an acronym for Creation Of Peace Under Stars. The world beat ensemble is more than just a band – it is a vision. A vision founded by well-known Bay Area poet/spoken word artist Royal Kent and award-winning composer/pianist Wendy Loomis. The vision is expressed through conscious lyrics and beautiful melodies.

Even though 13 years have passed since the last full-length album “Later Than You Think”, COPUS never missed a beat. Refining the new material to perfection. It is and will always be about the vision, creation of peace under stars.
